The Nintendo Switch 2 is launching on June 5 with an impressive lineup of 28 games ready for players on day one. The collection includes both brand new titles and upgraded versions of popular games, giving players plenty of options when the console arrives.
Big Name Games Lead the Pack
Mario Kart World will be the biggest draw for many players. This marks the first completely new Mario Kart game in 11 years, featuring a large open world that players can explore alone or with friends. The game also introduces a new 24-player “Knockout Tour” mode that works like a battle royale race.
Two major Zelda games are getting the upgrade treatment. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will both have Switch 2 editions with higher resolution, HDR support, and much smoother frame rates. Both games will also work with a new “Zelda Notes” mobile app that adds helpful features like GPS-style navigation.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be one of the most demanding games on the system, including both the main game and the Phantom Liberty expansion. This version will test what the Switch 2 can handle compared to other consoles.
Mix of New and Updated Games
Several games are getting “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” upgrades that cost around $10 more than the regular Switch versions. Hogwarts Legacy will run at 1440p when docked and 1080p in handheld mode, with much faster loading times. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time and Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma are also getting enhanced versions. For fighting game fans, Street Fighter 6 offers two purchase options – a basic version for $40 or a complete edition with extra characters for $60.
The Switch 2 will launch a new “Nintendo Classics” service that includes GameCube games. Three titles will be available on day one for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers: F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SoulCalibur 2. More GameCube games will be added later.
Free Upgrades for Existing Games
Players who already own certain Switch games will get free upgrades when playing on Switch 2. Games like Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and Arms will all run better with improved graphics and frame rates at no extra cost.
Despite concerns about $80 games, the Switch 2 launch lineup has options for different budgets. Fortnite remains free-to-play, while games like Fast Fusion ($15) and Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer ($17) offer cheaper alternatives. The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour costs $10 and teaches players about the console’s new features through mini-games. The most expensive games are Mario Kart World and Tears of the Kingdom at $80, but most titles fall in the $40-60 range.
Notable Exclusives and Ports
Survival Kids is a Switch 2 exclusive co-op game about children stranded on an island. Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut brings the popular crime series to Nintendo for the first time with new content and an English voice track. Deltarune, the follow-up to the hit game Undertale, will include new chapters 3 and 4, with future chapters coming as free updates.
