Jujutsu Kaisen has been named the World’s Most Popular Anime by the Guinness World Records, beating out popular animes such as One Piece.
According to the Guinness World Records post, Jujutsu Kaisen is now the most in-demand animated TV show, taking the title from Attack on Titan which held it since 2020.
The result is based on research from the data-science firm Parrot Analytics, which scored the different anime based on global demand rating, with Jujutsu Jaisen having a rating 71.2 times greater than that of the average TV show.
Parrot Analytics calculates ‘demand’ based on attention, engagement, desire, and viewership that is expressed by consumers for content.
Their system captures billions of new data points each day, basing the scores on the following activities:
- Video consumption (Streaming and Downloads)
- Social media engagements (hashtags, likes, shares)
- Research actions (Example: reading about a show on IMDb)
According to the post, actions that require more effort on the consumer’s part such as watching or downloading a show are weighed more heavily during the calculation.
For the ranking, the main competitors for Jujutsu Kaisen were One Piece and Attack on Titan.
According to the analytics shown, the demand for Jujutsu Kaisen at the start of the year was relatively low, while the demand for One Piece remained consistent throughout the year, but it was a huge surge at the end that put the anime in the lead.
In July 2023, new episodes for the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen were released, with the anime series continuing until the year’s end, explaining why the demand has seen a significant increase during that specific timeframe.
