Digimon: New Century will have original Chinese Digimon

Chinese Digimon mobile game, Digimon: New Century (also known as Digimon: New Generation) will release on October 13, 2021. A recent live stream from the developers revealed the release date, together with features coming to the game.

Of particular note is that the game will introduce new original Digimon into the franchise. While they did not share any visuals or concept art, these Digimon will be based on mythological creatures from the Chinese classical text, Shan Hai Jing also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas.

According to the developers, some of the Digimon will still be cute. Elements of bian lian, or face-changing from Chinese Sichuan opera will also be included in some of these Digimon.

While the names and the looks of these Digimon are still unknown, the developers did reveal three Digimon that will join the game upon launch. They are BlitzGreymon, Justimon and Kerpymon (Evil).

Besides Digimon, other new additions include more clothing options and accessories for player avatar customisation. In addition, there will also be a night mode for the town hub.

The developers also showcased some of the base-building mechanics that will be part of the game. Players will have their own island which they can build various buildings to generate food and other resources.

Finally, the island will also have an incubation room, where players can incubate and hatch their own Digitama. Friendship points are used to incubate Digitama, resulting in Digimon with different attributes.
