CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is now in production. They announced during a recent livestream that the highly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed anime series will once again feature animation by the legendary Studio Trigger and take place in the gritty world of Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
However, this second installment won’t revisit the story of David Martinez. CDPR has made it clear that Edgerunners 2 will introduce an entirely new cast of characters. This was reinforced with the release of an atmospheric teaser on YouTube that opens with a stark reminder: “David is dead. But Night City lives on.”
A Raw, Real Chronicle of Redemption and Revenge
Showrunner and producer Bartosz Sztybor shared insights into the new direction for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, promising a bold and emotional story arc:
“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge—something unlike what we’ve done before.”
The returning creative team includes lead character designer Kanno Ichigo, known for Promare and the first season of Edgerunners, along with Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), who will handle the screenplay adaptation.
New Protagonist, New Themes

While CDPR hasn’t revealed much about the plot, it has confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will consist of 10 episodes. Based on the teaser trailer and promotional artwork, the story may revolve around a character wielding a video camera. This hints at themes involving braindance technology and a deeper dive into the dangers of cyberpsychosis.
At the end of the announcement, CDPR and Studio Trigger also revealed that an exclusive preview was shown behind closed doors during Studio Trigger’s Anime Expo 2025 panel at the Peacock Theater.
Although CDPR hasn’t revealed a release date, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 promises a bold return to Night City with new characters, intense themes, and Studio Trigger’s signature animation. Fans of the first season and newcomers alike should keep an eye out for future updates.
