We recently had the chance to interview Zhenyu Li, producer of Zenless Zone Zero regarding Version 2.0 which is now live as of June 6, 2025. The game is entering its second major phase alongside celebrating its first anniversary. Li shared insights about player concerns, upcoming features, and how the team plans to keep both new and veteran players engaged.
Addressing Player Concerns About Stat Growth
One of the biggest topics among players has been the increasing power levels in the game. Li acknowledged these concerns directly, explaining that managing character balance is an ongoing priority. “With each update, Zenless Zone Zero continuously introduces new gameplay systems and fresh characters. Throughout this process, ensuring compatibility between new mechanics and both new and existing characters has always been one of our key priorities,” he said.

The producer emphasized that being a long-term live service game gives them room to make adjustments based on player feedback. He pointed to recent changes as an example: “That’s exactly why we made adjustments to Ellen’s combat performance in Version 2.0—to better align with evolving gameplay needs and player expectations.”
Multiplayer Features on the Horizon
When asked about potential cooperative gameplay systems, Li revealed that multiplayer content is definitely in their plans. The team has been exploring ways to let players help each other with challenging content like weekly bosses and dungeons.

“Multiplayer co-op and PvP modes are both directions we’re interested in pursuing,” Li explained. He mentioned that they’ve already tested the waters with events like “Bangboo Bash,” which got positive reactions from players. “Looking ahead, we plan to introduce more multiplayer-focused features into the game to provide diverse combat experiences and gameplay designs.”
However, Li stressed that quality comes first: “We want to ensure that any new system truly enhances the player experience, so such features will only be released once they’re fully polished and refined.”
Team Chemistry and Character Development
The idea of special team moves between characters from the same faction also came up in our conversation. Li showed enthusiasm for this concept, particularly building on existing examples like the coordinated attacks between Koleda and Ben.
“Team synergy skills are definitely one of the directions we’re considering for future combat design. Based on each Agent’s unique gameplay traits, we’re eager to explore more possibilities and mechanics that can enrich team coordination and provide players with more dynamic combat experiences,” he shared.

Regarding character backstories and deeper connections with the roster, Li confirmed they’re working on better ways to present each character’s story. “As we continue to introduce more Agents, we’re actively exploring better ways to present their backstories. We hope to provide deeper insights into each character’s world,” though he asked players to stay patient for specific details about format and timing.
Helping Players Catch Up
Version 2.0 brings significant support for both returning players and newcomers. Li outlined several measures designed to lower barriers to entry and help players get up to speed quickly.
“Whether you’re a veteran Proxy who has been with Zenless Zone Zero from the beginning, or a newcomer just stepping into New Eridu, we want everyone to enjoy the new season without pressure,” Li said. The “Waifei Peninsula Starting Gifts” provide substantial rewards just for logging in: “players can claim a permanent S-Rank Agent, a permanent S-Rank W-Engine, and 1,600 Polychromes for free.”

For returning players specifically, the updated “Return to Ridu” event helps them pick up where they left off. Additionally, a new main story skip function lets players jump straight to Version 2.0 content after completing Interlude Chapter 2, allowing them to “earn the new outfits for the Proxy siblings and quickly get up to speed with the latest gameplay and story developments.”
Looking Forward
Throughout our conversation, Li emphasized the team’s commitment to long-term development and community feedback. The approach seems focused on balancing innovation with accessibility, ensuring that both hardcore fans and casual players can enjoy what Zenless Zone Zero has to offer.

After our interview with Li, Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.0 is now live and marks the game’s first anniversary, it’s clear that the development team has ambitious plans for the future. Whether it’s improved multiplayer features, deeper character stories, or better support systems for players, Li and his team appear dedicated to evolving the game based on what the community wants most.
