Nintendo POP-UP STORE Singapore is Like Stepping into Tokyo Without The Long Flight

The Nintendo POP-UP STORE Singapore is opening its doors soon and here’s what you can expect from the first ever Nintendo POP-UP STORE in Southeast Asia.

At launch event, President of Avex Asia Shunta Takahashi said that the Nintendo POP-UP STORE Singapore will be the first of many potential future Nintendo related events for the Southeast Asia region.

“We’ve been bringing a lot of strong Japanese IPs to the market and this time, we are very happy and honored to work with Nintendo to open the first ever pop-up store here in Singapore at Jewel. This is the first ever pop-up store in Southeast Asia and I hope this is going to be a great start for the Nintendo business in this region.” said Mr. Takahashi.

Located in Jewel at Changi Airport (Level 04-220/221), the Nintendo POP-UP STORE will be available on 17th November 2023 till 1st January 2024.

As you would imagine from an official Nintendo licensed store, fans can expect to see high quality merchandises from big name IPs from Mario, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and of course, Legend of Zelda.

Do note that customers are limited to 5 items per product to prevent hoard buying. Meaning that if you want to buy a specific Mario plushie, you can only buy up to 5 of the same plushie. But you’re still able to purchase other plushies.

Heading to the store, customers are able to collect a total of 18 stickers of everyone’s favourite Nintendo characters. The way to collect these exclusive stickers are simple, all you have to do is to scan a QR code near the huge Red Pillar which will prompt customers to either register or log in to their Nintendo Account. Once you do, display your QR code and scan it with an iPad provided at the store and have it verified by one of the staff members and you can redeem a sticker.

The sticker runs on a gacha system and everyday you can get a random one. It’s also worth mentioning that customers can only log in once per day.

Spending above SGD 80 in a single transaction at the store, customers will be able receive 1 of their limited edition Postcard. There are 6 Postcards in total and they will rotate it out each Friday.

There will also be staff members there to assist you if you have any inquiries about any of the merchandises, or if you wish to have a closer look at them, considering that there a lot of fragile items like glasses, mugs and plates.

Entering the store, the immediate thing that you catch customers’ eyes is the red pillar with the iconic Nintendo logo, surrounded figures of some of the characters from the major IPs that are available at the store.

On the right side of the wall is a line of every Super Mario Characters from Mario himself, to Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, all the way to Baby Mario, Goomba and Bullet Bill. There’s also Large Mario, Yoshi, Mushroom and Power-Up Block Plushies to get for any hugging purposes.

Moving down along the line is the Pikmin section filled with Pikmin themed shirts, keychains, clocks and even small figures of the adorable little buggers themselves.

Up next is the Zelda Section, bringing you a little slice of Hyrule with Zelda & Link Plushies, a variety of glasses and mugs, as well as even notebooks and keychains.

Ending off the right side is the Splatoon merch area, which brings in a more “Back to School” vibe as it features plushies, T-Shirts, and mostly stationary from pens, notebooks, backpacks, pencil cases and even tapes.

On the opposite side there’s the Animal Crossing section, bringing in the chill vibes with a set of Animal Crossing Collar Shirts, T-Shirts and Sweaters.

Next to the Animal Crossing shirts are the Nintendo Switch Line ups, with Nintendo Games that correspond to the respective IPs: Pikmin 4, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Splatoon 3. They also provide a neat little brochure that includes information on the Nintendo Switch and the games to recommend to new players.

Moving along to the cashier is a set of 5 shelves which consists of Animal Crossing cutleries, mugs, apron or Animal Crossing Markers, pen, notebooks and tapes; Super Mario plates, teapots, saucer or Mario bags, wallets and a mirror; Pop-Up Store Merch like their T-shirts, pens and pins.

All in all, stepping into the store, a wave of reality hit me. Growing up with Mario and seeing how far Nintendo have come to even have their own stores and more IPs to join in to create a huge family is just amazing.

While the store is a bit on the smaller size, the variety of high quality merchandises from the 5 different IPs is nothing to scoff at. Needless to say, you wallet will definitely be in danger once you step into the store.

I personally appreciate how they diverse the items are, while you still have your usual plushies and T-shirts here and there, I was not expecting them to sell items such as cooking pots and handbags. It just goes to show how Nintendo acknowledges how their fans are growing up along the franchise.

At the end of the day, the Nintendo POP-UP STORE Singapore is a just a neat safe haven, especially if you’ve grown up with all things Nintendo.
