Dotemu and The Game Kitchen are joining forces to bring back Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a beloved classic with a bold new vision.
Revealed during the latest State of Play, the game is set for a digital release on July 31, coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Fans eager to try it early can look forward to a demo launching during Steam Next Fest, running from June 9 to June 16.
A brand-new trailer showcases high-energy side-scrolling action, cinematic boss encounters, and introduces dual protagonists, Kenji and Kumori. The gameplay blends fluid traversal with tight, fast-paced sword combat, paying homage to the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy while pushing the franchise into new territory.
A Direct Sequel with a New Generation of Ninjas
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound picks up directly after the events of the original NES game. With Ryu Hayabusa pursuing his own path, players will take control of Kenji Mozu, a rising ninja of the Hayabusa Clan. Fighting alongside him is Kumori, a fierce kunoichi from the rival Black Spider Clan. Forced into an uneasy alliance, the duo must confront waves of demonic adversaries, drawing on forbidden ninja techniques to amplify their strength.

The adventure unfolds across side-scrolling stages filled with traps, secrets, and towering bosses. As players advance, they’ll unlock powerful abilities, uncover hidden missions, and face optional challenges that reward mastery of each character’s unique combat style.
A Stylish Blend of Old and New
The visual direction of Ragebound combines rich pixel art with fluid modern animation, capturing the essence of the original Ninja Gaiden while giving it a contemporary edge. From eerie temples to infernal war zones, each environment is packed with atmosphere and detail, while enemy designs channel the dark, grotesque aesthetic fans might recognize from The Game Kitchen’s work on Blasphemous.

Known for revitalizing retro classics like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and Streets of Rage 4, Dotemu continues its winning formula: delivering gameplay that’s both faithful and fresh, stylish, and true to its roots.
