Nintendo has moved the release date for its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie from March 26, 2027 to May 7, 2027. The delay was announced by Shigeru Miyamoto, who created the Zelda video game series. In a tweet, Miyamoto explained the change was needed for “production reasons” and said the team wants to use the extra time to make the movie “as good as it can be.”
This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it…

The new May 7th date pushes the film back by about six weeks from when it was originally supposed to come out. Miyamoto thanked fans for being patient with the delay. Nintendo first revealed plans for a Zelda movie back in November 2023. The company is working with Sony Pictures Entertainment to make the film, with both studios putting money into the project. Sony will handle getting the movie into theaters around the world.

Miyamoto is producing the film alongside Avi Arad, who has worked on movies like Spider-Man and Uncharted. Nintendo has said they plan to stay closely involved in making the movie to make sure it stays true to the games. This isn’t Nintendo’s first time making movies based on their games. Detective Pikachu made $433 million worldwide in 2019, while The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge hit last year, earning over $1.3 billion and becoming one of the biggest movies ever made.

Even with the delay, fans still have about two years to wait before seeing Link’s adventure on the big screen. Nintendo hasn’t shared details yet about who will star in the movie or what the story will be about.
