IO Interactive has finally given their upcoming James Bond video game an official name: 007 First Light. The studio behind the popular Hitman series confirmed the title but kept other details under wraps for now.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer for more information. IO Interactive announced that the game will get its full reveal sometime this week, complete with never-before-seen footage. While the exact date hasn’t been confirmed, many expect the announcement to happen during the Summer Game Fest showcase on Friday, June 6.

The reveal promises to “give a world premiere look at 007 First Light, featuring never-before-seen footage, and start a new era for James Bond in video games,” according to IO Interactive. This Bond game was first announced back in November 2020 under the working title “Project 007.” At that time, the studio only showed a brief CGI trailer and began posting job listings to find top talent for the development team.
Studio CEO Hakan Abrak made it clear in January 2021 that the game won’t copy previous Bond movies or actors. Instead, the team is building their own James Bond universe from the ground up. 007 First Light will tell an original Bond origin story, letting players experience how the famous secret agent earned his “00 status.” The game’s teaser website describes it as featuring “a wholly original Bond origin story” where “players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent.”
So far, Nintendo Switch 2 is the only confirmed platform for the game, which was announced during April’s Switch 2 Direct. However, the game is expected to come to other platforms as well, based on the original project announcement. Development appears to be going well.
