HoYoverse launched a major update in Genshin Impact’s Version 5.6 after settling with the FTC. This update brings more transparency by showing prices for in-game purchases and introducing a new age verification system for US players. A $20 million settlement was made in January due to claims of poor data handling and misleading pricing practices regarding underage users.
In compliance with legal requirements, US player accounts must undergo age verification. The verification process will be implemented for all US players by May 20, during either login (for existing accounts) or new account registration.

Players must submit their age information by July 18. Failure to complete verification will result in the following:
- Suspension of the account.
- Deletion of in-game friends and chat history.
- No further notifications after suspension, as account information will become inaccessible under legal obligations.
If age verification is not completed by July 20, 2026, all personal information associated with the HoYoverse account will be permanently deleted.
Additionally, in conjunction with Version 5. 6, players can now see how much money they might need to spend to get a 5-star character using the gacha system. The chance of getting a 5-star event-exclusive character or weapon is over 1.1%, with costs ranging from $1.98 to $422.4, depending on luck and payment method. This current change addresses community concerns regarding gacha transparency.
