Genshin Impact is the biggest game out from China

According to a report by The South China Morning Post, Genshin Impact is the biggest international launch for a game out from China to date. The game has nabbed 110,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch in just a few hours after launch, making it bigger than Fortnite at reported time.

Furthermore, MiHoYo’s open world RPG is currently the second biggest grossing app on the iOS App Strore in China, with ByteDance’s Douyin retaining its top spot. Analysts at Qimai Data estimate that Genshin Impact has grossed USD 1.84mn on revenue just for the iOS alone. Of course, with so much hype leading up to it, the game also benefitted from record international pre-orders, as 5.3mn users had registered for the game outside of China. Back at home, Genshin Impact garnered 16mn players across all platforms.

Liu Wei, company founder, informed The South China Morning Post that the game had a development budget of more than USD 100mn. He added that its previous titles had made more than USD 760mn in revenue from over 40mn installs.

Launched just a few days ago on 28 September 2020, Genshin Impact immediately garnered attention due to the built-in anti-cheat programme which would continue running even after exiting the game or uninstalling it.
