Wizards of the Coast has unveiled new artwork for their upcoming Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY set, featuring contributions from two renowned Final Fantasy artists. The collaboration brings together Toshiyuki Itahana and Toshitaka Matsuda, who have created original illustrations for special Borderless FINAL FANTASY Artist cards.

The new set, launching Friday, June 13, 2025, represents the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever featured in a single game. Two newly revealed cards showcase the artists’ distinct styles: “Vivi Ornitier” illustrated by Toshiyuki Itahana and “Kain, Traitorous Dragoon” by Toshitaka Matsuda. These special cards are designed to appeal to both Magic players and Final Fantasy fans who may want to display them as artwork.
The set also introduces beloved Final Fantasy characters like Chocobos and Moogles through cards such as “Choco, Seeker of Paradise” and “Moogles’ Valor.” One notable addition is “Summon: Leviathan,” which debuts as Magic’s first-ever “Saga Creature” card type, promising powerful board-clearing abilities.

To celebrate the launch, Wizards of the Coast will host special events across Southeast Asia. Singapore and Thailand will see weekend celebrations on June 14-15, while the Philippines gets its turn on June 21-22. These events will feature activities for both newcomers and experienced players, including learn-to-play sessions, sealed events, and commander tournaments.
Players in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines can also participate in “Chocobo Racing Events” from June 13 to July 24. These draft and sealed tournaments offer exclusive rewards including AR pins, posters, and metal tokens.

The Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY set aims to blend iconic Final Fantasy moments with Magic’s strategic gameplay, creating what the company calls a “dream collaboration” for fans of both franchises. With over 50 million Magic players worldwide, the crossover represents a significant moment for both gaming communities.
