Apex Legends has tanked down to “Overwhelmingly Negative” on Steam after receiving as of writing more than 30,000 negative reviews due to player backlash.
In the past few days, Apex Legends has received numerous negative reviews on the platform, causing the game’s recent review rating to plummet to “Overwhelmingly Negative,” with only 15% of reviews from the last 30 days being positive. The overall rating remains “Mostly Positive,” but this trend could be concerning for developers Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts.
The popular battle royale game, has recently stirred controversy with its announcement of a significant overhaul to its Battle Pass system. The new plan introduces two separate Battle Passes per season, both requiring purchase with real money. Consequently, this marks a stark departure from the previous model, where a single Battle Pass cost 1,000 Apex Coins (approximately $9.99). The old system allowed players to earn coins throughout the season, potentially funding future passes. Many fans considered this approach fair and had grown accustomed to it over time.
This isn’t the first time a game has faced such a concerted review bombing campaign. A recent example has shown that this tactic can be an effective way for players to voice their concerns and potentially influence developer decisions.
However, it remains to be seen how Apex Legends will be impacted in the long term with the negative Steam reviews.
