The AORUS MASTER 16 (Model: BYH) represents Gigabyte’s latest attempt to capture the high-performance gaming laptop market. Packed with top-tier hardware including Intel’s Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and NVIDIA’s powerful RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, this 16-inch machine promises serious gaming and creative performance. But does it deliver on all fronts, or are there compromises that potential buyers should know about?
Eye-Catching Design with Gaming Flair
The AORUS MASTER 16 certainly doesn’t shy away from its gaming identity. The laptop features what Gigabyte calls “NIL Technology,” which creates a multi-layered glow effect across the surface. The lid sports a flowing stripe pattern that changes appearance depending on the lighting angle, giving it a dynamic look that gamers will appreciate.
Brand presence is strong throughout the design. You’ll find “Team Up. Fight On.” engraved on the top-left corner of the lid, while the iconic eagle logo at the center lights up with customizable RGB effects. The laptop takes things further with RGB light strips along the front and rear edges, plus a rear projection light that casts the AORUS logo onto your desk surface. When set to dual-color mode in darker environments, these lighting effects create an impressive visual display.

The build quality feels solid with well-tuned hinges that open and close smoothly without wobbling. Anti-slip rubber feet keep the laptop stable during use. At about 2.5 kg, it’s reasonably portable for a high-performance gaming machine, though you’ll definitely feel the weight in your bag.
However, the surface does attract fingerprints and smudges easily, so you’ll need to clean it regularly to maintain that sharp appearance. The overall feel is somewhat plasticky, which might disappoint users expecting more premium materials for a flagship device.
Stunning Display Built for Gaming and Content Creation
The 16-inch OLED display is where the AORUS MASTER 16 truly shines. With a resolution of 2560×1600, it delivers sharp, detailed visuals that look great whether you’re gaming or working on creative projects. The 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time make it perfect for fast-paced gaming, ensuring smooth motion without blur or ghosting.
Color quality is exceptional, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and earning VESA DisplayHDR certification for vibrant high dynamic range content. The display is also Pantone Validated, meaning colors are accurate right out of the box – a big plus for photographers, video editors, and other creative professionals who need precise color reproduction.

The three-sided narrow bezels help create an immersive viewing experience, though the hinge doesn’t allow for a full 180-degree opening, which limits flexibility in some situations.
Above the screen, you’ll find a 1080p webcam paired with an infrared camera for Windows Hello facial recognition. This setup provides secure, convenient login without typing passwords. The laptop also includes Gigabyte’s AI Privacy feature, which can automatically dim the display or activate privacy protection when it detects you’ve stepped away.
Comfortable Keyboard and Responsive Controls
The keyboard delivers a satisfying typing experience with crisp, bouncy keys that provide clear feedback. Whether you’re typing documents or gaming for hours, the keys remain comfortable to use. The 3-zone RGB backlight system allows full customization of lighting effects, with some keys featuring semi-transparent caps that enhance the visual impact.

Keeping up with current trends, there’s a dedicated Copilot key for quick access to Windows AI features, plus a GiMATE shortcut key that opens Gigabyte’s control software. The power button sits at the center of the keyboard’s top edge, flanked by speaker grilles on both sides.
The touchpad is generously sized with a smooth, responsive surface that tracks accurately. It’s decorated with the signature AORUS pattern, reinforcing the brand identity while providing a comfortable user experience.
Complete Connectivity Options
The AORUS MASTER 16 doesn’t skimp on ports, offering a comprehensive selection that should satisfy most users’ needs. On the left side, you’ll find the DC power input, ethernet port, HDMI 2.1, one USB-A 3.2 Gen2 port, and a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 5 support that also handles USB4, DisplayPort 2.1, and Power Delivery 3.0.

The right side houses another USB-A 3.2 Gen2 port, a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 (supporting USB4, DisplayPort 1.4, and Power Delivery 3.0), a MicroSD card slot with UHS-II support, and a combo audio jack for headphones or microphones.
Advanced Cooling Keeps Performance Steady
To handle the heat generated by high-end components, the AORUS MASTER 16 uses the upgraded WINDFORCE Infinity EX thermal system. This setup includes dual high-efficiency fans with 158 blades each, combined with a full-coverage thermal plate, ultra-thin heatsinks, and Gigabyte’s 3D VortX airflow design. The system can handle up to 230W of cooling power under full load.

A unique feature is the “WASD Cool Zone,” which directs cold air to the area under the most commonly used gaming keys, helping keep your fingers comfortable during long sessions. However, the fans do get quite loud during intensive use, which can be distracting for some users.
The large 99Wh battery, combined with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and AI Power Gear II technology, provides around 5-6 hours of real-world use for light tasks like document work or media streaming. For demanding workloads, you’ll want to keep the laptop plugged in.
Rich Audio Experience
The AORUS MASTER 16 features a quad-speaker setup with dual force-feedback woofers, creating an impressive soundstage for a laptop. Whether you’re gaming, watching movies, or listening to music, the audio feels full and natural with good detail across different frequencies.

With both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support, the multimedia experience reaches a high level. Content looks stunning and sounds equally impressive, providing an immersive experience even without headphones.
GiMATE AI: Convenient but Not Revolutionary
The laptop includes GiMATE AI, Gigabyte’s control platform for its 2025 laptop lineup. Pressing the dedicated GiMATE key brings up an interface that allows system adjustments via text or voice commands. You can switch performance modes, adjust fan speeds, and customize RGB lighting using voice commands like “I want to play a game.”

While this sounds impressive, it’s mostly a voice-controlled version of traditional menu options. It doesn’t significantly boost efficiency, but it might appeal to users who prefer voice interaction or are less familiar with system settings.
The platform includes several intelligent features: AI Power Gear II manages power distribution to extend battery life, AI Boost II optimizes performance during gaming, and AI Privacy monitors user presence for automatic screen protection.
Performance That Delivers
The combination of Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU makes this one of the most powerful laptop configurations available. In benchmark tests, it consistently delivered impressive results across different scenarios. The Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark tool returned a score of 22,030 with an average frame rate of 129.36 FPS at 2560×1600 resolution with Ultra settings and frame generation enabled – earning an “Excellent” rating.

3DMark Time Spy Extreme testing showed a well-balanced system with a total score of 10,452 points, including a graphics score of 10,244 and CPU score of 11,811. For creative work, PCMark 10 testing revealed strong performance with an overall score of 8,495. The laptop scored 10,150 in Essentials, 10,500 in Productivity, and an impressive 15,613 in Digital Content Creation, showing it’s not just a gaming machine but also capable of handling demanding creative tasks. Cinebench R23 testing of the processor showed excellent multi-threaded performance with a score of 33,957 and single-core performance of 2,174.

Real-World Gaming Performance
In actual gaming tests, the AORUS MASTER 16 handled demanding titles smoothly. Monster Hunter Wilds ran at 65-75 FPS average at 2560×1600 resolution with Ultra settings, maintaining stable performance even during intense battles with lots of visual effects. Stellar Blade delivered even better results, maintaining 110-120 FPS at 2560×1600 resolution with “Very High” graphics settings during both combat and exploration.

Wuthering Waves ran fluidly with maximum graphics settings in the resource-heavy Qichiu region, maintaining steady frame rates without noticeable drops during exploration and combat.
Verdict
The AORUS MASTER 16 successfully showcases the impressive capabilities of the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU. The display delivers excellent performance with vivid colors and fast response times, while the overall gaming and creative performance is outstanding.
However, there are some drawbacks to consider. The build quality feels somewhat plasticky, especially the lid, which may not meet expectations for a flagship device. The GiMATE AI features, while innovative, are more novelty than practical improvement over traditional controls. Additionally, fan noise under heavy load is quite noticeable and may affect the user experience.

If strong gaming and content creation performance is your top priority, the AORUS MASTER 16 remains a solid high-performance option. The RTX 5080 delivers excellent results and strikes a good balance between power consumption and cost, even if it’s not quite as extreme as the RTX 5090. Just be prepared for some compromises in build quality and noise levels during intensive use.
