Electronic Arts (EA) has implemented significant workplace cuts, laying off between 300 and 400 employees across the company, including approximately 100 staff members at Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.
In a statement addressing the cuts, Electronic Arts spokesman Justin Higgs said, “As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth.”

Respawn Entertainment confirmed the layoffs on Twitter, revealing that the studio has also canceled two early-stage incubation projects. “As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi,” the studio stated. “These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected—their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today.”

According to the same Bloomberg report, one of the canceled projects was an unannounced extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe, code-named “R7.” The second project had reportedly been canceled earlier this year. Despite these cuts, Respawn confirmed it will continue development on the next installment in the Star Wars Jedi series, which is “aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay,” as well as upcoming Apex Legends seasons and an overhaul.

The layoffs at EA follow earlier financial challenges this year, including reduced bookings estimates after the underperformance of EA Sports FC 25 and disappointing sales of BioWare’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which reportedly missed sales expectations by 50%.
