thatgamecompany, the award-winning studio behind Sky: Children of the Light, presents a limited, in-game screening of The Two Embers: Part One, the first part of a wordless animated feature revealing the long-awaited origin story of Sky, a once-thriving kingdom of stars nestled in the clouds.
Overview
The Two Embers is told in two parts, tracing the parallel journeys of two children. Though separated by time, their stories are deeply connected, and the choices they make will determine the fate of a kingdom on the brink of collapse.

Part One unfolds without dialogue, following an orphaned child and a wounded manatee as they travel through a world slowly succumbing to darkness. The story’s emotional depth transcends language, exploring themes like grief, anger, and the healing power of compassion. It’s a universally resonant tale that speaks to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring hope for a kinder, more empathetic world.
Jenova Chen, Executive Creative Director and CEO of thatgamecompany, describes The Two Embers as a deeply moving story, one that lingers with viewers, evoking strong emotions and a renewed appreciation for loved ones.
A Fusion of Film and Gameplay
For the first time, players will experience the origin story of the game Sky as part of the gameplay, not just by watching. Each chapter of the story will come with new in-game content that enhances the film’s emotional and narrative depth through exploration and play.
Unlike typical video game adaptations, The Two Embers and Sky will exist together, enriching each other within a shared world. The project embraces the company’s goal of creating meaningful experiences that connect players rather than simply adapting to the film industry.

A Reimagined Virtual Theatre
The Two Embers: Part One introduces new video streaming technology that allows players to watch the film together in a virtual movie theater called Sky Cinema. This enables thousands of players to gather and share the experience simultaneously.
This technology was first shown during the AURORA concert at Gamescom, connecting over 10,000 players and setting two Guinness World Records. As the AURORA concert returns this June, more players will have the chance to engage with this innovative experience that melds film and gameplay.

The Two Embers: Part One will premiere inside Sky: Children of the Light in four weekly chapters, beginning July 21.
Fans can refer to Sky: Children of the Light’s official website and follow the official social media pages on X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube to stay informed on the games updates.
