A Square Enix support website has seemingly leaked a Star Ocean 2 Remake called Star Ocean: The Second Story R, through a banner uploaded to the website.
The image has now been taken down but it has been circulated around the internet. You can see it for yourself below:
Star Ocean: The Second Story, is the second game in the Star Ocean series, originally released in 1998 for the PlayStation. The game was developed by Tri-Ace, well known for the Star Ocean and Valkyrie series, and published by Square Enix.
It should be noted that the original Star Ocean was remade for the PSP in 2008 under the name Star Ocean: First Departure and the second game received a remaster also for the PSP called Star Ocean: Second Evolution. Star Ocean 2 was also ported to the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita but these versions were also released in Japan.
This of course should be taken with a grain of salt as it does not fully confirm a Star Ocean 2 Remake but the fact that it appeared on an official Square Enix website does give some solid evidence for it.
The latest entry in the Star Ocean series, Star Ocean: The Divine Force was released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Star Ocean 2 is available for the PS1 and PSP if you have access to one of those.
