Sonic Superstars Unveils Emerald Powers, Allowing Players to Blast Off as Fiery Balls and More

SEGA has revealed more details regarding the four playable characters’ unique abilities and the new Emerald Powers in the upcoming Sonic Superstars.

As we get closer to the launch of Sonic Superstars, SEGA has unveiled many new unique abilities and Emerald Powers for all the playable characters in the game.

Unique Character Abilities

As revealed, all four playable characters – Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles will all have their own unique, exclusive abilities alongside the same basic maneuvers such as run, jump, and Spin Dashes.

Sonic 

Sonic the Blue Hedgehog will have a unique Drop Dash ability, allowing him to execute a Spin Dash immediately after landing by pressing and holding the Jump button while mid-air.

Tails

By repeatedly tapping the Jump button, players can fly as Tails and a friend can grab onto him to travel along.

Uniquely, Tails can also inflict damage to enemies with his tails while flying.

Amy

Amy has a hammer that she can unless after landing by pressing and holding the Jump button while mid-jump, bashing enemies, and breaking down walls.

Additionally, Amy can also double jump by pressing the Jump button again when in midair.

Knuckles

Knuckles the Echidna can glide along the air by pressing the Jump button while airborne.

Upon gliding over to a wall, Knuckles can latch onto it and begin climbing by moving up or down.

Furthermore, Knuckles can demolish any wall that blocked his path with his fists.

Emerald Powers

Aside from character abilities, Sonic Superstars will also feature Emerald Powers which can be unlocked by collecting Chaos Emeralds from the Special Stages hidden throughout Acts.

These Emerald Powers offer a variety of abilities, each with its own unique properties, and players can use them as many times as they want within a time limit.

Once the timer runs out, players can replenish their Emerald Power by running past any Star Post.

Avatar

The ability to create clones that can destroy objects, whack enemies, and pick up Rings and items along the way.

Bullet

Morphs your current character into a ball of fire and blasts off in any direction.

Vision

Allows players to unveil and detect any hidden platform and Rings in Acts.

Water

This causes your character to transform into a body of water that allows them to swim up waterfalls and move freely underwater.

While in this form, players can also ram into enemies while underwater, and as long as there is time, players do not need to come up for air and they will not be affected by currents.

Ivy

When activated, sprouts a large vine from the feet of your characters which you can control the direction of, helping you to get around.

Slow

Unleash a time warp that slows down the movement of objects and platforms, especially handy when up against obstacles and traps.

Extra

A special Emerald Power that bestows a power attack that varies based on the character.

For example, Knuckles the Echidna can create shockwaves at his enemies upon gaining this Emerald Power.

These are the newly revealed Emerald Powers and character abilities for Super Sonicstars, which is set to be released on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam and Epic Game Store on 17 October 2023.
