South Korean game developer SHIFT UP has officially renamed its upcoming cross-platform game from Project Witches to Project Spirits. The studio is now actively hiring new team members to work on what they’re calling their next flagship title. Project Spirits will focus on an “Eastern Fantasy” theme and is planned as a global release for 2027. The game represents SHIFT UP’s third major project, following the success of Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.
“Project Spirits is SHIFT UP’s new flagship project, a subculture cross-platform title that embraces the concept of ‘EASTERN Fantasy,'” the company stated on their official website. They describe it as a “top-tier quality game for the industry” that builds on their experience from previous successful projects.

In addition, the developer has posted multiple job openings for the Project Spirits team. They’re looking for professionals in various roles including background artists, battle planners, character artists, lead content planners, level designers, monster artists, previsualization artists, and screenwriters.
Required skills for these positions include experience with Unreal Engine 5, knowledge of Japanese RPG development or anime-style games, and expertise in creating open-world environments, large maps, and dungeons. These requirements suggest Project Spirits will be an ambitious open-world RPG with anime-inspired visuals.

SHIFT UP has also updated their website with new artwork for Project Spirits, giving fans their first visual glimpse of the renamed project. According to the company’s current development roadmap, the game is expected to launch sometime before or during 2027.
The renaming marks a significant step forward for SHIFT UP as they expand their portfolio beyond mobile gaming into console and PC markets, following the successful launch of Stellar Blade earlier this year.
