Grasshopper Manufacture – led by the visionary Suda51 and producer Ren Yamazaki – has unveiled its next project, Romeo is a Dead Man. The game is currently slated for release in 2026, although the reveal trailer playfully hints that this date is still tentative.
Presented during the latest State of Play, Romeo is a Dead Man is described as an ‘ultra-violent science fiction’ action title. Players will step into the role of Romeo Stargazer, a time-traveling FBI investigator tasked with hunting down dangerous criminals across multiple timelines.
The debut trailer showcases a brutal and stylish combat experience, featuring an abundance of swords, firearms, blood, and over-the-top enemies.
Grasshopper Manufacture’s Bloodiest Action Game Yet
Romeo is a Dead Man delivers Grasshopper Manufacture’s most intense action experience to date. Romeo switches seamlessly between swords and firearms, using enemy powers against them in a visceral combat system designed to overwhelm the senses. Featuring clever, fast-paced level design, players will leap between reality, subspace, and explosive battles that feel powerful enough to tear the universe apart.

When things reach a breaking point, players can activate Bloody Summer – a devastating instant-kill special move fueled by the blood of defeated enemies – to shift momentum and regain control of the battlefield.
A Space-Time-Spanning Story of Blood, Loss, and Mystery
Romeo’s pursuit of dangerous fugitives across time and space becomes deeply personal when his girlfriend, Juliet, vanishes without a trace. As his mission unfolds, the search for justice merges with a desperate quest for answers. How – or if – these mysteries connect is something players will have to discover for themselves.

Romeo himself remains an enigmatic figure, and according to Suda51, more details about the character and the story will be revealed in the future.
