Overwatch: Classic Limited-time Event Lets You Relive 2016 – A Three-Week Nostalgia Trip

Blizzard is bringing back Overwatch’s original 6v6 team format with the Overwatch: Classic event, which will run from November 12 to December 2. This nostalgic mode offers fans the chance to relive the fast-paced action of the 2016 launch version of Overwatch, with its original 21 heroes and 12 maps, including Assault Maps like Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, and Volskaya Industries.

Unlike current Overwatch 2, the Classic mode reverts to familiar mechanics, where Ultimates charge faster, and there are no hero or role limits for the first few days. That means you can run a team full of Winstons (bubble shields galore or mayhem?) or Torbjörns—whatever your heart desires.

This limited-time event also brings back original hero abilities that have been gone for years. Remember Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow, capable of nabbing an instant sextuple kill? Or the thrill of hearing Mercy soar in, shouting “Heroes never die” as she triggers her Resurrect, bringing the team back to life after a wipe and setting up a dramatic comeback? These iconic abilities are back, allowing players to experience the game as it was at launch.

However, it’s important to note that Overwatch: Classic isn’t Blizzard’s permanent solution for bringing 6v6 back into Overwatch 2. It’s simply a way to revisit the past, with future tests planned for the upcoming S14 to gauge player interest in a potential permanent return of the format. For now, fans can enjoy the nostalgia, as well as the excitement of new changes that may come in later events.
