The developers of Goddess of Victory: Nikke had altered the design of the melee squad NPC from the game’s latest event after being called out for being too similar to one of the character artwork by artist neco.

Following the controversy where Shift Up was called out for having characters from the most recent “New Year, New Sword” event for Goddess of Victory: Nikke looking almost identical to the FALSLANDER Samurai character by neco, an update has been issued and a design of the NPC units have been changed.

Previously, the in-game sprite of the NPC was called out by fans to be extremely similar to the design of the FALSLANDER Samurai, an original character by neco.

Most notably, both characters spot the same color scheme with an almost identical hairstyle and red string headdress while wielding a katana.

This caught the attention of the artist who wrote on Twitter that “parts composition was almost the same.”

“Maybe it is a coincidence, but, sadly, there are so many things happening one after the other.”

Shortly later, neco posted another Twitter post, noting that the management team behind Goddess of Victory: Nikke had contacted them, apologizing and working to investigate and resolve the matter.

In the most recent update, the NPC design has since been changed with an entirely new ponytail hairstyle and the absence of various accessories.

Aside from the NPC, some fans have also described Scarlet: Black Shadow, the latest recruitable character in the game to have some similar design elements to neco’s FALSLANDER Samurai as well.

For the uninitiated, neco is known for their work Girls’ Frontline as well as the FALSLANDER series of illustrations, which is where the aforementioned character belonged.

The FALSLANDER series is also being manufactured into figma figurines by Good Smile Company, including the previously mentioned Samurai, Lanze Reiter, and Hemet Nethel.
