Back in March 2015, Nexon and Square Enix had signed for a partnership to develop a mobile game based off Final Fantasy XI. The game was slated to be released in 2016, however it was delayed until further notice. Now that it’s been 2 years since the expected release, there’s no new date announced yet. It would seem that their delay was due to some internal issue and Nexon is looking to hire workers to fill in the positions needed to work on the Final Fantasy XI reboot for the mobile on their official site.
Looking at the screenshots that they released with the job posting, the game utilizes Unreal Engine 4 as the game was promised to leverage Final Fantasy XI with impressive graphics while maintaining the title’s compelling storyline and engaging content.
Since it’s going to be for mobile, the game will be optimized with features fit for mobile devices to create an immersive, responsive and dynamic experience for mobile users. The optimized features include improving party organizing systems, enriching solo-play functionality, improving battle functionality and enhancing in-game events and other features.
