Capcom dropped a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword giving fans their best look yet at the upcoming action game set to arrive in 2026. The new footage, called Formidable Foes Emerge, puts the spotlight on Sasaki Ganryu, a major rival who will face off against the game’s hero, Miyamoto Musashi.
Ganryu is also known by the name Sasaki Kojiro, and like Musashi, he has his own powerful Oni Gauntlet weapon. The trailer shows intense sword fights between these two warriors, setting up what looks to be a central conflict in the story.
The trailer also teases a mysterious woman who appears from the glow of Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet, though Capcom isn’t saying who she is just yet. Players got a taste of the game’s combat, which focuses on quick, precise sword fighting.
One standout move shown is called “Issen” – a lightning-fast strike that players can pull off right before an enemy attacks. The trailer also revealed devastating finishing moves, including attacks with dual hammer-like weapons that are so powerful they appear to crack the air itself.

Beyond the previously shown Kyoto temple setting, the trailer revealed a strange new area with floating ruins and massive rocks hanging in mid-air. Two new enemy types were also shown off. Daidara is a giant winged demon that swings around a huge club and is always looking for its next meal. Meanwhile, Kubi Akari are smaller floating enemies with pale blue skin that steal the souls Musashi needs for his gauntlet, then puff up and shoot energy blasts at players.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam sometime in 2026. The game marks the return of Capcom’s samurai action series after years away from the spotlight.
