Lilith Games‘ Dislyte is probably something you’ve see floating around quite a bit, whether through social media or cringe as hell advertisements on Youtube. I myself got curious because it showed up in the roguelite section so I guess, let’s give it a go.

PRESENTATION

From what I’ve understood, this game is essentially “characters based off gods and mythical figures in some EDM, rock and roll, punk, DJ” kind of world. I do like this style, with a lot of outfits that would be pretty cool to wear in real life. The 3D character models aren’t too jarring from their 2D art versions unlike some games I can think of, and overall the aesthetic is quite pleasing.

English dubbing is somewhat uncommon in an often anime / anime-esque dominated mobile market which makes it stand out some. Whether you think they sound good or not depends on your personal preference, because I’m pretty sure there will be people vehemently insisting Japanese dub will be the way to go for most, if not all, things.

Music and sound effects are quite nice. I’m not sure if I’m missing something but I’d like to turn off the special attack animations; they take long enough to complete it gets irritating.

GAMEPLAY

One thing is for sure: this game is a battery hog on HD quality, with HDR rendering and physics simulation on.

The game is played vertically, and is primarily a turn based battler. Turn order can be found at the bottom of your screen, depending on how fast your unit is. Each unit has 3 skills, some taking turns to come back off cooldown. There is an elemental chart, with the one in the middle being that catch-all master of none and correspondingly, the rarest. Skills run the usual gamut of buffing, debuffing, multi-hit, multi-target or single, etc.

Each unit can equip up to 6 Relics, individual pieces having random bonus stats, besides set bonuses, in varying rarity. Besides their base levels, units can also be ascended through multiple phases for them stats, duplicates for “energy” for even more bonus stats, and ability levels. Abilities are levelled up at random to which I say, what the hell even.

“Strategy” on a unit’s profile is basically like a trial stage of sorts with missions you can complete for some extra premium currency, and unlocking more of their stories also get you rewards. Other battle modes are the daily rotating material grind, ‘boss’ fights for relics, story. They’re named differently, but most should be familiar with these systems by now.

What’s new is that Dislyte has both a rhythm game and a roguelike mode. The rhythm game is styled like spinning on a DJ Table – which is how the gacha is presented, incidentally – with taps, holds, that sort of thing. Songs have varying difficulties, with a Story difficulty for some more lore.

The roguelike is pretty simple, a distilled version of something like Slay the Spire. Move from node to node, pick up temporary units in the “Cube” version, get relics for bonus effects, fight enemies. The Infinite version can eventually net you a 5-star unit, though since it is escalating difficulty as you climb the floors, I won’t expect you to be able to do that so soon.

You can do repeat battles, which allow you to minimize that grinding session so that you can play other stages instead. It’s quite nifty.

GACHA

At 1% Legendary rate, it’s not the best. At the very least, beginners can do a 10 pull to guarantee one Legendary, and the standard pool has a 120 pity rate for the guarantee Legendary.

I don’t feel like the game is very generous with its currency at 200 to exchange for one pull, and a first clear typically nets you 20. Every 2 days you can get tickets from the Cube roguelike so just keep going at it I suppose. Big shrug.

You can get pieces for specific element draws, but that’ll take a while too.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

I’m here for the aesthetics and something to have run in the background casually. From the little I’ve seen of the story so far, I’m not that interested, so I won’t comment on the narrative.
